Dr. T.S. MacGregor has been my favorite professor while attending IWU (all of my other professors have been fantastic, he just made a better connection)! He is very friendly and quick to respond to questions, making the online experience feel more comfortable and personable. He responded to emails within minutes and had assignments graded within hours of turning them in! It was impressive and made the class very enjoyable!

Hello Dr. T.S. MacGregor, As I submit this final paper, I wanted to take a moment and thank you! First of all, I appreciate the time you have taken to read my papers. In many of my classes, the feedback is minimal and general. It is clear that you took the time to read and think about what I wrote, it wasn't just checking the box. Next, I want you to know I read it all! I appreciated your stories on mentoring, travel, and quotes that make the mind go...Mmmmm. I want you to know I am working on finding a way to watch the Chernobyl series. I don't have HBO, but I did look up the trailer. I agree with you that I would find it an interesting watch. Lastly, you have encouraged me tremendously. I enjoy writing but never know if I'm genuinely good at it. Knowing your expertise and how well-traveled you are, it means so much to me to know that you found my work accurate and cogent. I hope somehow I have inspired you too. You were always one of the more interesting teachers at NW. You really made people feel like you cared about them. You had a job to do in teaching us but you always made it enjoyable. Looking back I find myself thinking of that when things get tough at work. In a way it's helped me find a balance between being serious and finding ways to relax so I don't go completely insane. If you can do it with 25+ kids in a classroom, I can do it as well.
Another thing I learned from you is how much kindness and appreciation imprint on peoples lives. To this day I remember you letting me talk to you during lunch about my troubles. I try to live each day being kind because you really don't know much about people. If I am remembered 10 years later by someone I said something nice to or I listened to, just like you did to me, I will call that a win.

You taught me to breathe and relax a little and to not take everything in life so serious. My mom always expected the best of everything and that was easy for Alex but everything was so much more difficult for me. Everything comes so easy to my sisters but I have to work twice as hard as either of them do on anything.
The “don’t should all over me” really stuck lol. It helped me see that just because someone says I should be doing something doesn’t necessarily mean that’s true and that I don’t always have to do what’s expected of me which was a LOT.
I was also going through so much that it was honestly hard just to keep going every day but your class was always fun. I had a lot of walls up and tried not to let many people in because I’m somewhat of an empath and it hurts letting others in. Even though you were going through so much you always did your best to give us a distraction from our lives, teach us what you needed, and give us a safe space to breathe and I really appreciated that. I’d love to be able to tell you that your history, government, or econ lessons made a huge impression on me but honestly those were all just things I pretty much soaked in to be able to pass the tests. It wasn’t ever something I was passionate about. I did like history though!
What you taught me though had a much greater effect than any scholastic lesson ever could.

To begin with, I will never forget a particular conversation you and I had my senior year. I was applying for colleges and I was uncertain of what I should major in at the time. I might not remember every word exactly, but I remember you passionately discussing the ins and outs of economics and you closed your discussion with, “Zac, if you truly understand economics, you can hold this world by its tail!” I get a smile every time I recall this discussion. From that moment I knew what I wanted to major in, and that was economics, with a twist. That twist being that I’ve always had a passion for agriculture, so I chose Agricultural Economics as my major at Purdue. At the time, and in some ways still today, I wanted to rock this world and make a real impactful difference. You knew that and you set me on a path that could do that. You also knew my strengths and weaknesses, so you knew I didn’t have any interest in pursuing something like biology or chemistry. I had “business” on my mind, but I was on the fence with that major as I was thinking that was pretty generic degree that many people held. As such, I found a path, thanks to you, and I will be forever grateful for that. Over the years, you and I had many conversations about school, life, what I wanted to do when I grow up, and so much more. If I ever had a question, or an idea, I knew exactly where to go to learn, or better yet, discover what it was that I was seeking. I say “discover” because of how the conversations went. It wasn’t just you giving me an answer. You asked thought provoking questions, you listened, and you guided me down a path of discovery. I recall many times where we’d be talking about something and we didn’t have the answer at that moment, so you’d go grab a book or do some research and get back with me with what you found. Generally, what we discussed wasn’t even about finding an answer for a school related question. I bring that up the point about it not being related to school as you were going above and beyond your “job” duties doing such things. This showed me that you genuinely cared and actively took part in our discussions. In conclusion, your teachings and our one-on-one discussions greatly impacted my life and my career. You set an example for how to engage in meaningful conversations with your thought provoking questions and your open ear. You helped ignite my passion for economics, to step back and see the thirty thousand foot view (macroeconomics) and how to zoom in and focus on the individual pieces (microeconomics). This mindset is something overflows into everything I do, from my family to my career. For that, I’d again like to thank you for the impact you’ve had on my life, as a teacher, a mentor, and I’d like to think a friend.

You taught me that the world is huge, and I have so many paths in life. Of course, I learned about World War 2, colonialism, and the different branches of government, but none of that is important to me. I have a bare minimum grasp on understanding anything regarding politics or government, but the life lessons you have taught are what I held on to and use in my day to day. I’m not saying that I did not pay attention, but history does not interest me. However, your teaching style and overall charisma is what kept me engaged . That has also been a skill you possess that stuck with me, you can make people be interested in the things you have to say if you deliver it in a way that is engaging.

Doc, just wanted to thank you for everything youve done for me this year. I also want to thank you to your part in my journey of growing into a younger & more mature adult. You have shown me the true signs of bravery, trust and self love. Always stay Strong, Doc you are a true inspiration to everyone you come across, and I cannot be anymore grateful for meeting you And getting to be around you
